Jodhpur, the second largest city in Rajasthan is popularly known as the Blue City. The name is clearly befitting as most of the architecture – forts, palaces, temples, havelis and even houses are built in vivid shades of blue. The city was founded in 1459 by the Rathore Rajput Ruler, Rao Jodha Singh of Marwar. The city was founded as Marwar’s new capital after the fall of the former capital of Mandore. Jodhpur is also called the Sun City as it enjoys a bright sunny weather all year round. Major attractions in Jodhpur are: Mehrangarh Fort, the Umaid Bhawan Palace, the Mandore Gardens, the Jaswant Thada, the Kalyana Lake and Garden & the Ghanta Ghar. Its 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort is a former palace that’s now a museum, displaying weapons, paintings and elaborates royal palanquins (sedan chairs). Set on a rocky outcrop, the fort overlooks the walled city, where many buildings are painted the city’s iconic shade of blue. No trip would be complete without a tour of the 15th century Mehrangarh Fort, the largest fort in all of Rajasthan & walk in the old city, the area around the iconic Ghanta Ghar clock tower, is home to a market where stallholders sell spices, food, clothing and jewelry.
